ART EVENTS & MONTHLY GALLERY WALK

Gallery Walks are a favorite here in Port Townsend. Occurring the first Saturday of every month, galleries and venues in the downtown waterfront district show off the work of local artists. Informal and enticing, the Gallery Walks encourage exploring the many nooks and crannies of the town's historic center. The walks are sponsored by the many galleries and venues, and a consortium of artists. A truly unique happening and all you do is show up downtown and start walking!

NORTHWIND ART CENTER sponsors educational programs, lectures, readings and workshops, and provides venues for displaying the visual & literary work of regional artists. One of our favorite events is the Studio Tour which is scheduled for October 10 - 11, 2009. We will post the actual schedule as soon as it is available.

THE LOCAL MUSIC SCENE

Being the artistic place that it is, of course Port Townsend has a vibrant music scene. Besides weekend gigs at local watering holes like Sirens & Water Street Brewing Company, you can bet on The Upstage to showcase some great local & visiting musicians. Many folks who are booked into some of Seattle's happening spots like The Triple Door, end up at The Upstage. You will pay much less to get in, and have a much more intimate setting so it is a great place to relax and hear some great music. Click here for what is happening this week.

MADRONA MIND BODY EVENTS & WORKSHOPS

We are happy to support the work of our dear friend Aletia Alvarez who shared a vision for a center where people could explore new sources of energy and empowerment through movement and dance.....Madrona Mind Body Institute. You can join drop in classes while you are in Port Townsend, or sign up for one of the upcoming workshops which bring a variety of world class instructors. Why not do something for yourself? Don't forget to ask us about special workshop lodging rates if you attend one of Madrona Mind Body Institute workshops. Here is to your good health!

WATERFRONT ACTIVITIES

One of our favorite views of Port Townsend is from the water. If you have come in on the PT ferry, you get a whole different perspective of the town. You can see it close up from a sailboat or a kayak and it is a great way of spending a morning or afternoon! We personally love to explore the shore from a kayak.....in and out of the pilings, explore the boat harbors, and just float up for a quick snack!

SATURDAY FARMER'S MARKET IS BACK!

When: Every Saturday 9:30 - 1:30 May through November.

Where: Uptown at the intersection of Lawrence & Taylor.

This is our favorite Saturday gathering place and it is only three blocks walk from The James House! The street is closed and the vendors are out for this fun, dynamic local event where you will find fresh local produce, selected product vendors, and fabulous lunch opportunities! With the backdrop of local music, don't be surprised to see dancing in the street!

MARITIME ACTIVITIES

Port Townsend is known around the country for maritime activities, and especially for anyone interested in wooden

boat building. We are lucky to have one of North America's School for Wooden Boat building where you can take classes or just stop in for a visit! The Northwest Maritime Center has broken ground on a new facility and there is always the Wooden Boat Foundation to visit. Walking through the harbor is always fun too....lots to see and a great way to spend a morning.

Inside the beautiful barn, world-renowned musicians clad in blue jeans are enthralling Northwest natives and visitors with outstanding music from the most-beloved classical composers. This is the Olympic Music Festival. Order your tickets now!

SCHOOL OF WOODWORKING

This is a new and wonderful opportunity in Port Townsend to learn new skills and develop new interests....and all by master craftspeople!

Whether you are a woodworker wannabe, intermediate, or advanced craftsperson, there is something which will interest you. They have classes specifically for women too! I can't wait until I have time to sign up for a class myself!
